The Brief: Brookfield Properties are experts at Placemaking which is the ability to dream of and construct new destinations around the world. One of their latest projects is Manhattan West; a new neighborhood located just west of Moynihan Station in New York City. This location is home to a variety of mixed use space, retail, residential and office. It also plays host to a large public space centrally located within the 2 square blocks of the development. Manhattan West Tower 2 will be under construction until 2023 and as such requires a large “shed” structure installed onto the plaza to protect from the construction above. This created a wonderful opportunity to utilize the existing elements in a new way to generate foot traffic through the plaza.
The Solution: Working with the necessary structural components such as the “shed” as well as the planter beds; we designed, developed and installed a whimsical lemon garden aimed to be a destination which encouraged people to spend time, take pictures and interact with the various physical and digital touchpoints throughout the plaza.
The Results: Citrovia opened to very positive fanfare making publications such as: The New York Times, Architectural Digest, The New Yorker, Fast Company, Time Out and more.
