I partnered with Hillary Leone (The Creator and Director of Synch.Live) in December of 2024 to start on a journey to modernize and productize the experience. Since then, I’ve been able to not only design but help build the current immersive version of Synch.live which won the Human Human Machine award at A MAZE. / BERLIN in May of 2025.
So what is Synch.Live?
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧?
That's the question driving Synch.Live.
AI, post-Covid, and human-machine co-evolution are reshaping culture. The technologies mediating our relational lives divide us by design. Human connection is our evolutionary superpower, and we are losing the charge.
Synch.Live is a live action, prosocial human connection game built on shared reward: you can only win together.
Modeled on flocking birds, it allows humans to try their hand at what science calls, Emergence. This is when the sum of the parts are greater than the whole. Can people use nature as a model for human connection. Can humans get into a room together and create emergence without the benefit of speech or touch?
Here's where we are, 5 years in:
1,250+ players across research and public events
45+ events across 11 countries and 3 continents
5+ years of sustained scientific research with leading researchers
3 publications including peer-reviewed research and doctoral scholarship
Last year, we premiered at A MAZE. Berlin, receiving the Human Human Machine Award. The jury said it best: "It makes technology feel ancient... it resists spectacle and instead centers human connection."
Such a good reminder that even in these divided times, the instinct to connect is hardwired and ours to reclaim.
